On 23 August 1916, with four other pilots of his Escadrille, he resolutely attacked a group of ten enemy planes, putting them to flight; during the course of the pursuit, he downed one of them. For 18 months, during the course of numerous missions for the army and on long distance reconnaissances, he has demonstrated the full measure of the remarkable sang-froid and spirit that he always gives to the most difficult tasks. He has had more than 60 combats during the course of which he downed 7 enemy planes. On 4 September 1917, he reported his 8th victory. Médaille Militaire for feats of war. Cited in orders 7 times."
