Pourrait être la fille de Benjamin Tucker  née vers 1908 "In 1908, a fire destroyed Tucker's uninsured printing equipment and his 30-year stock of books and pamphlets. Tucker's lover, Pearl Johnson – 25 years his junior – was pregnant with their daughter, Oriole Tucker. Six weeks after Oriole's birth, Tucker closed both Liberty and the book shop and retired with his family to France."

"The child was Oriole Tucker, who arrived in November 1908" "I was born in New York City on November 9, 1908"

Mais ça ne nous dit pas pourquoi son nom s'est retrouvé ici ...

"Rare example of the common WW11 French naval enlisted man's cap in Free French service. White cap body on dark navy base with red pom on the top as well as strap. Rather than the traditional "Marine Nationale" cap tally, this original example bears the woven "FNFL" (Force Navale de France Libre) tally. The interior has the sailor's service number (1665 L31) hand-sewn in thread. Also included are the sailor's original ID stencil in tin with matching number, as well as his old "Marine Nationale" cap tally.

The entire group is identified to French seaman Jean Riche, and is accompanied by an original clipping from the New York Post dated January 11, 1945. The Post article reads as follows:
In February, 1943, although we couldn't then use his name, we ran a story about Jean Riche. He was one of the French sailors who quit the battleship Richelieu in New York so that he could join Gen. de Gaulle's Fighting French Navy. He might have been held for treason by the Vichy French at that time.
Recently a 10-year-old boy fell through the ice in Central Park Lake. Riche-and happily today we can use his name-was passing by. He crawled out on the thin ice and rescued the boy, who was about to go under.
For two years he and nine friends worked as a team to sabotage German installations in France. Eight of his friends were caught and shot.
Realizing he was a marked man, he went to Toulon to re-enlist in the navy-the Vichy Navy. His one thought was to get out of the country to fight with deGaulle.
Since we last spoke to him, Riche made his way back to England. Then he spent a year and a half shipping up and down the African coast as a gunner in the Fighting French Navy.
He was sent back to help man a new ship. It gave him time to look up Oriole Tucker  of 167 Amsterdam Av., whom he had met at a meeting at France Forever the first night he had been in New York. They were married on Nov. 13. [End of article]
This is a rare identified grouping to a man who was a hero in both civilian and military life."
