Breiz Izel My father Sgt JDH Carleton was a RAF airman on board the Breiz Izel. His Stirling EE905 was shot down on 31 July 1943, near Willerzie Belgium and he parachuted down to Givet. He then spent the next 6 months with Belgian and French resistance, before crossing the English Channel, on board the Breiz Izel. I am slowly gathering information about my father during WW2,and am keen to see any further information about this boat trip.
My family are forever grateful to all the Resistance who helped my father successfully return to England. I am in great admiration of the bravery of the Resistance workers in Douarnenez who housed, fed and hid him for 1 month, and for the brave men who sailed the boat to Falmouth.
