Remembering Ray I was in Sagan this weekend to remember those who took part in The Great Escape 80 years ago. My Grandfather Raymond was one of those. A scrounger and forger he was 19th out of the tunnel and was 'lucky' enough to survive. Having only 'discovered' him 5 years ago (I was adopted as a baby) it seems this amazing man did everything in his power to escape trying several times. He then continued a distinguished career until the 1960's. I was not able to meet him and wish that I had. I am gathering as much information as I can intending to write a book about his war time exploits. I have contacted the French Embassy here in the UK to see if they can help direct me to any records held in France, however if anyone is able to help I would be most grateful. I am also trying to discover where his medal may be and if I can obtain them. Thank you.
We will remember them. Rest in Peace Raymond.
